Information & Policies
Price Changes
Prices, issues/yr, and availability of magazines & newspapers are subject to change without notice throughout this catalog. We are not responsible for printing or typographical errors.
Change of Address
NSP does NOT process change of address requests. All COA requests must be sent directly to the publishers.
Method of Payment
Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Personal Checks, Company and Corporate Checks, Cashiers Checks, Money Orders, or funds directly sent from an institution. Your order will not be processed until payment is received.
We do not accept stamps for payment.
Receiving Your First Issue
The first magazine will normally arrive within 4 to 16 weeks from the date of your receipt; newspaper subscriptions will arrive within 7 to 30 days. Some publishers are quick to send out the first issue and others are much slower. NSP cannot make an inquiry about a subscription until it as been entered for 120 days (for magazines) and 30 days (for newspapers), from the date of your receipt.
Duplicate Issues
Duplicate issues are caused when you renew a subscription, and you vary the first line of your address from one order to the next; and, when you are already receiving a particular magazine and a family member or friend orders the same magazine for you. If you receive a duplicate of any magazine or newspaper, just notify the publisher of this problem, by sending them a copy of both labels. This way they can combine both issues and extend the expiration date.
Renewal
To renew a subscription, just check the box for renewal in the order form. It is highly recommended that you renew your subscription(s) at least 4 months prior to your publication's expiration date, to eliminate the risk of missing any issues.
Note: Any subscription title bearing *(NS) next to the magazine or newspaper, cannot be renewed. If you are receiving this publication, you may order it through us, but not as a renewal. You must let your current subscription expire, so that you can take advantage of NSP's low rates.
Order Processing Receipt
Once your subscription order is processed, NSP will mail a receipt within 14 business days (to the subscriber/recipient).
Cancellation of Publications
There will be no cancellations, substitutions, or changes of any kind after the order has been processed.
Discontinuation of Publications
In the unfortunate event that an individual publisher terminates production of a publication, the publisher or NSP will make available to you a comparable publication of equal value. Where applicable, NSP will refund the subscriber with the un-expired portion of the subscription.
NOTICE TO PRISONERS
Restrictions
Many prisons do not allow inmates to receive sexually explicit materials and other publications (e.g., Hustler, Handguns, High Times, etc.). It is your responsibility to inquire with your institution and find out which publications are permitted. There will be no cancellations, substitutions, or changes once your order has been processed.
Rejected Issues & Confiscations
On occasion, some magazine issues have explicit content or articles about making wine, knives, homemade guns, jail escapes, etc. If this is the case, your institution may confiscate the issues, and return them to the publisher without refund. Please note that your subscriptions will continue. Some institutions mark the magazine as "Refused" and then send it back to the publisher. This creates a problem with some publishers, because when they receive your magazine back, marked "Refused", the publisher thinks that the inmate was the one who refused the magazine. When this happens, you may get a letter or card from the publisher saying that they are sorry you want to cancel your subscription. If this happens to you, then you need to immediately contact the publisher or the person who sent you the cancellation notice, and tell them you do not want to cancel. Explain that the institution refused it, not you.
Ship to Address
Some prisons require that you put your unit name and/or cell # on all your incoming mail. If this is required by your prison, you must put that information on the order form (Not just on the envelope, because your order and envelope are separated after opening). If you do not include this information on the order form, and it is required by your mailroom, your publications may be returned to the publisher by your mailroom, due to improper addressing. This will not be the fault of NSP or the publisher.
Transferring To A New Institution
If you would like to place an order with NSP, but you are in the process of getting transferred to a new institution within three or four months, it is highly recommended that you place the order after you get to your new institution. This is because magazine subscriptions normally take between 4 and 16 weeks to start, after we process the order.
Change Of Address
Do not send change of address requests to NSP. All change of address requests must be sent directly to the publisher. It is the responsibility of your old institution to forward your magazines to you, while your change of address takes effect. If you do not get your magazines forwarded to you during your transition, contact the institution, and not NSP. Many prisons are very poor at forwarding magazines. This is not the fault of NSP or the publisher.
Note
It is the publisher's responsibility to get your magazines to you. When you receive the first issue, find the publisher's name, address, and phone number and keep a copy for your records. This information can usually be found within the first few pages of each magazine. It is a sad fact in the publishing industry that magazines sent to inmates of correctional facilities sometimes get lost somewhere between the publisher and the inmate's cell. If you miss any issue(s), do not contact NSP. You must contact the publisher directly.
